My name is Corrin Emerson and I am the Centre Manager of our Wantirna Service for 2019.
I came into this industry 9 years ago. After completing a year of primary school teaching at Griffith University on the Gold Coast, I was seeking something more. Persistent towards a career with children, I began my Certificate III in Children’s Services and was employed not long after, whilst still studying. Starting out as an assistant in a pre-kinder room, I found my passion in the early years and haven’t looked back.
Since then, I have worked across all rooms and I now hold a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. After making the move from the Gold Coast to Melbourne, I have found my place with Swinburne Children’s Centres and have been with the organisation for the past 4 and a half years, predominantly at the View St service, predominantly in the babies room.
One of my personal opinions, is that there’s always something to learn and I have made a conscious effort to increase my knowledge of the early years and children’s development, attending countless professional development days to achieve this. SCC have encouraged me throughout my learning journey and, in recent years, my interest in leadership, mentoring and management has grown. I am grateful now to be given an amazing opportunity to undertake the role of a manager.
I am eager and excited to take on my first year in this role at Wantirna, with a motivated and passionate team of educators by my side. I look forward to creating warm, safe, secure and engaging environments for the children at our service, establishing trusting relationships with them and our families.
