Our Commitment to Children’s Safety

Child Safe Standards

Swinburne Children’s Centre is committed to the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of all children. We have zero tolerance for child abuse and all forms of harm to children. We are committed to the ongoing implementation of the Victorian Child Safe Standards to ensure that the wellbeing and safety of children and young people is at the forefront of all that we do and every decision that we make.

Swinburne Children’s Centre is committed to:

  • The cultural safety of Aboriginal children and young people
  • Providing inclusive environments that promote equity, and pay particular attention to the diverse needs of children with disability, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and LGBTQIA+ children and young people
  • Providing physically and psychologically safe environments for children and young people
  • Empowering children and young people to participate in decisions that affect them, and to know that we will always take their views seriously
  • Ensuring that our children, families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing
  • Ensuring that child safety, empowerment and wellbeing is embedded in our leadership, governance and culture
  • Applying best practice human resources processes that incorporate child safety and wellbeing
  • Ensuring that all of our staff and volunteers are supported, and have the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children safe
  • Ensuring that our policies and procedures document how our organisation is safe for children and young people
  • Regularly reviewing our implementation of the Child Safe Standards.
