My Name is Samantha Bywater, and I have been employed by Swinburne Children’s Centre for the past 13 years. I started working for Swinburne whilst I was still attending high school. During those years I completed my certificate 3 and Diploma through the VCAL program. In 2007 I became a fulltime employee.
I began my career in childcare as an assistant educator and over time with mentoring, guidance and passion from my fellow educators, I was certain early childhood was where I wanted to pursue my career. Over the years, I became a room leader which eventuated into a Centre Manager position. Whilst undertaking the Centre Manager role I studied my Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment. Over the years whilst in the Centre Manager position I was fortunate enough to have gained experience across 2 of our services. This provided me the opportunity to build relationships with families from these services and a variety of educators.
In 2017 I’m very excited to be undertaking a new position. My new role will be mentoring our educators to embed the “Taxi Dog” program into our pedagogical documentation. Taxi Dog is a wellbeing educational program which enables young learner’s social and emotional skills, including self-regulation and empathy development.
On a personal level, I have a partner Dean and we have a son, Oscar who is 17 months. Oscar attends our Wantirna service and has built strong relationships with his educators and peers in his room.
Throughout my time at Swinburne Children’s Centre they have provided me with ample opportunities to grow and further extend my knowledge in early childhood development.
I look forward to seeing the growth of Lilydale Community Childcare Inc. in the years to come.
